Bermeo Tuna World Capital will organise next 8th April, Monday, a satellite event in the framework of the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference, to be held from 10th to 12th April in Barcelona.

The event will focus on the World Tuna Cities Alliance, a collaborative framework of tuna cities for the sustainability of the tuna sector, which we presented at the Bermeo Tuna Forum last May 2023. The alliance is made up of cities whose main industry is tuna, with the aim of guaranteeing its sustainable management from an environmental and social point of view. Our purpose is, through the cities of this alliance, to promote the recently presented proposal of the International Declaration for the Sustainability of Tuna, acquiring the commitments each one from their local governments, spheres of influence and action.

We believe that these alliances and the Declaration can be a great opportunity to direct the shared objectives and efforts of all parties involved in meeting the goals of the 2030 Agenda and thus become a reference tool within the framework of the Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development 2021-2030 to be a driving force in the construction of a framework for transformation within SDG 14 – Underwater Life – and related SDGs.

It will be a round table colloquium, where we will bring together in this side event cities representing the Alliance, with the expert in the development of the collaboration agreement framework and methodology, who will discuss in a round table about the challenges that each one faces from the point of view of the intergral sustainability of the tuna sector. The event will be opened by the President of BTWC, Ignacio Serrats.

Finally, in collaboration with ALAKRANA, we will enjoy a showcooking and tasting of their tuna delicacies.
