BTWC in Arrain Azoka of Bermeo (Fish fair)

The annual date with the most important fish fair in the Cantabrian Sea never disappoints. Bermeoko Arrain Azoka has closed one more year an edition full of stands of fish and canning products that did not stop having activity throughout the weekend, multiple gastronomic activities in which tuna was the real protagonist, children’s workshops and all kinds of cultural entertainment that dressed the fair as it deserves.

BTWC organised and participated in two gastronomic activities: a showcooking and subsequent tuna pintxo tasting with the participation of the BTWC canneries (Serrats, Zallo, Campos, Arroyabe, Cusumano, Alakrana and Bolton Food), with the help of the chef Bihotza and Unai Urresti. They prepared two very original and delicious pintxos using our canned tuna:

  • Taco de ventresca de bonito con encurtidos.
  • Pani puri relleno de bonito.

This was followed by the TUNA CITIES activity, with the participation of Jon Maia, who livened up the presentation of all the dishes with his brilliant bertsos, and Zigor Iturrieta, who directed and presented the event. It was the 7 world tuna cities that sealed the Alliance in Bermeo last week, who were the protagonists of this fantastic gastronomic event: Tuna and bonito as the protagonists of the typical dishes of Majuro (Marshall Islands), Pago Pago Pago (American Samoa), Manta (Ecuador), Victoria (Seychelles), Concarneau (France) and Bermeo. All of them, with a contribution of our gastronomy, which made the dishes culinary delights that could be enjoyed by the visitors who filled the tent.

The weekend was also full of other gastronomic activities, workshops and cultural activities that made the Arrain Azoka a complete event suitable for all types of public: Alakrana’s “ronqueo” and showcooking, Urremendi’s wine pairings, the Alakrana Kids workshop for children, the Toja anchovy cleaning workshop, …..

Undoubtedly, another year that leaves a good taste in the mouth, and a lot of encouragement and enthusiasm to start thinking about the next edition.

Eskerrik asko, thank you to all of you who have accompanied us, to our colleagues from Bermeo Tourism, to the canning companies that have collaborated in our gastronomic activities (Serrats, Zallo, Campos, Arroyabe, Cusumano, Alakrana and Bolton Food), to the service staff of Bermeoko Udala, to the Noverek team…. and to all those who have helped us to keep BTWC an active part of the Arrain Azoka.

Eskerrik asko, Thank you!
